Advancing Insight through Demographic Data Collection
Introduction
In recent years, there has been a growing need for organizations to collect, analyze, and report their demographic data to stakeholders. With this in mind, our organization has been working since March 2020 to help organizations achieve this goal. In this case study, we will provide a detailed overview of our work and the impact it has had on several organizations.
Project Overview
Our organization has completed several projects related to demographic data. Some of the key projects include a demographic data collection training, data collection and analysis of employee and board demographic data, and data collection and analysis of a nonprofit survey that sought to learn about organizations demographic data collection capabilities and challenges to collection. Additional consulting services included providing recommendations for updates to demographic survey questions, helping organizations collect demographic data through secondary data sources, and reviewing organization-wide demographic data collection practices.
Impact
Our work has had a significant impact on several organizations, including Viewpoint Consulting, Peak Grantmaking, Surdna Foundation, The James Irvine Foundation, Weingart Foundation, The California Endowment, and Heising-Simons Foundation. Our training and support have enabled these organizations to collect and analyze their demographic data more effectively, which has helped them better understand their internal organizations and the nonprofit organizations they fund, and make more informed decisions. Our recommendations for improvements to demographic survey questions have also ensured that these organizations are collecting data that is representative of the general population and inclusive of minority populations.

Combating Child Sex Trafficking
Introduction
Human trafficking is a major issue that affects countless people around the world, especially children. In October 2022, our organization had the opportunity to work on a high-impact human trafficking project aimed at estimating and reporting the prevalence of child sex trafficking in Maharashtra, India. In this case study, we will provide a detailed overview of our work and its impact on the fight against human trafficking.
Project Overview
The goal of the project was to assist the client, Two Six Technologies, with estimating and reporting the prevalence of child sex trafficking in Maharashtra, India. Our organization completed several tasks to achieve this goal, including assessing the client’s data sets for quality, conducting advanced statistical methods using R and RDS Analyst, developing a draft report based on the findings, and working with the client to finalize the report based on stakeholder feedback.
Impact
The results of our work went on to help the funders of the research, which are the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery and the US Department of State, Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking. By accurately measuring and reporting the prevalence of child sex trafficking in Maharashtra, India, these organizations were better equipped to allocate resources and design effective intervention strategies to combat this issue. Our work helped to shed light on the extent of this problem and contributed to the fight against human trafficking.
